Description
A French sculptor of the Art Deco period, Scali is characterized by his feminine and animal subjects treated with elegance, by the quality he attributes to details (finesse of facial features, carved patterns of the dress). To be compared to the great sculptor of the period, Demetrius Chiparus, for the graceful postures of his slender characters. To emphasize : the recurring theme, during this period of glamor for French art, of complicity between women and animals, including wild animals as is the case here.
